Iowa GOP Increases Voter Registration
Lead on Democrats in May
DES MOINES, Iowa– Voter registration numbers from the Iowa Secretary of State’s office on Friday revealed that Republicans in Iowa increased their lead on voter registration in the month of May. This comes after the Republican Party of Iowa surpassed the Iowa Democratic Party in voter registration in March for the first time since 2006.
The number of registered voters for each party as of June 1 are as follows:
Republicans – 607,936
Democrats – 595,423
“With continued high gas prices, high unemployment and underemployment, and a bleak outlook for our nation’s young people, it comes as no surprise that Iowans continue to flee the Democratic Party in droves. ,†said Republican Party of Iowa Chairman, A.J. Spiker in response to the news.
“The Republican Party of Iowa will continue to work hard this summer and fall to reach out to disaffected democrats and I am confident that we will be able to grow our Party even more in the lead up to the election.â€
