“Thank you Simon and welcome everyone, and a special thank you to John Bloom and Will Rogers, two men who left the Polk County Republican Party in much better condition, than which they found it.
As you know, Kevin McLaughlin and I ran for the leadership positions as a team and on a five point plan. I am not going to outline that plan tonight, but I will tell you that by every measurement, we are well ahead of our goals and on plan for winning Polk County for our eventual Republican nominee for President, and for every Republican down the ticket.
And speaking about those down ticket races, I would like to introduce the newly declared candidates for offices in Polk County that are here in the room with us tonight;
Running for Altoona City Council, an election to be held this November- Chris Brooks
And the November 2012 races:
For Polk County Sheriff-Dan Charleston-
For Senate District 10, that includes Polk City- Jake Chapman
Let me remind you to continue pressing your State Senators to get HB 194-the 20% Iowa State income tax discount moved out of committee, and let’s allow every Iowan to keep more of their own money. Just because we can take and spend the taxpayers’ dollars, does not mean that we should.
That bill, along with property tax reform; are vitally important to ensuring a robust economic recovery here in Iowa.
On May 5th, 1868, General John Logan, Then National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, issued his General Order Number 11. That order was first observed on May 30th, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of both Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington Nation Cemetery.
This Monday, on what is now become Memorial Day, as you’re at the grill or sharing the weekend with friends and family; Please remember the men and women of our Armed Forces, those currently serving, who like every Veteran– have written that blank check to their fellow citizens–up to and including the value of their lives—to defend freedom and liberty.
And remember this Memorial Day those American Veterans who died for your freedom and your prosperity.
And when you look at your children or grand children this weekend, I want you to think about November 2012, about the tasks ahead of us and the importance of winning back the White House- from what I hoped to never see in my lifetime- a President who is making Jimmy Carter–look competent.
As you have heard me say before, twenty years from now, let’s not look back with regrets, that when we could still save this country, we didn’t do enough.
Twenty years from now, let’s not be the generation, whom on our watch American Exceptionalism was abandoned for a government handout or the generation who gave up on the American Dream.
Thank you for your support this evening for the Polk County Republican Party -and from the 50,000 watt blowtorch of the upper Mid-west; WHO Radio, the broadcasting home of Ronald Reagan, thank you Simon Conway for your help this evening and may I turn it back to you…And God Bless America.”
